[A lot of really strange things have been happening to Nick lately, but he can safely say that somehow getting kidnapped on the walk from his aunt's trailer to his car, without actually seeing anyone or even being aware that he'd been knocked unconscious, was pretty much the last thing he was expecting.
So, of course, it's what apparently happened. At this point, Nick's pretty sure he should just stop not expecting things. As soon as he doesn't expect something, that's when it's going to happen.
He takes a quick stock of the situation - not exactly liking the look of the cell he's ended up in, but at least, for some reason, whoever captured him didn't take the duffelbag full of weapons he'd had with him. A peek in the bag says they're all there, along with his both his Glocks. And a try of the doorknob, which'd been half-hearted at best, because he really hadn't expected it to open, proves to be successful.
See? Never expect things.
His cellphone isn't getting any reception, so Nick shoulders his duffelbag and pulls his gun out from its holster before ducking out into the hallway. If he can manage to sneak his way to a place that gets reception, he can call for Monroe or Hank. Or, better yet, maybe he can just find a way out of here.]
[So, uh, nonhumans, let me know if you don't want Nick to be able to tell that your character isn't human? And also feel free to have any nonhumans be able to sense something strange or dangerous/predatory about Nick!]

[He gave a short shrug before pocketing his hands.]
I'm just here to watch.
no subject
[How many people have been kidnapped like he has? He'd passed a lot of rooms, it's kind of an unnerving thought to think they all might be full.]
Is that your job here? Watching?
no subject
[He tilts his head at Nick at the other two questions before shrugging.]
Sometimes. There's not a lot for someone to do when they can't sleep.
no subject
[Yeah he hadn't really looked at that book thing that had been in his cell.
And he gets a flash of something at that headtilt, but Nick has no idea what the hell what. Great. Not human, not something Nick knows, and now he's even more on edge.]
What do you get out of watching?
no subject
[He remains where he is and gives a small chuckle.]
Information, which myself or other people can give to new arrivals, like yourself.
no subject
[Nick is the most suspicious, here. He's pretty much assuming that Sandrath is one of the people in charge of this place.]
And you just give this information for free?
no subject
[He gave a small shrug. You could never be too careful from when people come from these days.]
It depends on my mood, mostly. Then again, a way of life around here isn't exactly 'normal'.
[He even added air quotes as he spoke.]
no subject
[What kind of question is that? Also, what. A book works like a phone.]
Really, I wouldn't have guessed. Being kidnapped and stuck in a medieval castle for whatever the hell plans you guys have isn't a normal way of life?
[Those air quotes would actually be kind of amusing, if Nick wasn't sure this guy was in on this.]
So what kind of mood are you in?
no subject
[San was about to give another shrug before pausing and raising an eyebrow.]
Wait, are you associating me with one of the staff?
[He starts to laugh and it steadily grows louder and harder that the fallen arch-angel has to lean against the wall for support. He tries his best to stifle it with his arm, but his body is still shaking.
...Don't worry Nick, he was kind of broken before he met you.]
no subject
[Except he's still trapped in a castle, captured by who the hell knows what.
Nick starts to reply to that, but hesitates when the guy starts laughing. Either that, or having a mental breakdown. It could go either way, right about now.]
...I was right up until you started laughing like that. Gonna take a wild guess here and figure that means you're not.
[And now he just thinks you're creepy, man, but he won't hold that against him.]
no subject
I think that's the first time I've heard that, aside from being mistaken as my boss before. But, I'm just like you. A resident or as others have stated, a prisoner.
[His gaze shifts to the corridor of doors.]
no subject
Sorry. But you've got to admit, saying that you're here to watch people and give out information is kind of suspicious behavior to someone who's just been kidnapped.
no subject
[He tilted his head again to look at Nick, almost waiting for a response.]
no subject
[He hitches his duffel bag up his shoulder, still slightly wary.]
So what information do you usually give to new arrivals?
no subject
[He gave a small chuckle.]
As for information, it usually involves the journals, some recent events, as well as clothing and food tend to be free.
no subject
[Nick's life is one giant source of confusion, it seems.]
...so they kidnap us, give us journals that work like phones, let us wander around the place, and supply us with food and clothing? What, was the king of the castle a little lacking in subjects, and felt the need to capture people to make up for it?
no subject
[He casually leaned against the wall with crossed arms.]
I suggested that the staff can't say much or suffer punishment for breaking a contract or oath. Or the lord of this place feels really horrible for destroying our worlds.
[There was another shrug from him.]
no subject
[He's about to respond to that first bit, but the second complete captures his attention.]
Wait, destroying our worlds?
no subject
[He brought a hand to his mouth, as if to look appalled.]
no subject
[He's so not buying that appalled act, but it is kind of amusing, so he gives a slight smirk.]
No, I was a little more preoccupied getting out of that cell.
no subject
Like most people. Or they're demanding an explaination for things, but I'm being rather repeative now.
[The fallen arch-angel decided to pull away from the wall and offered a hand to him.]
I guess we should finally exchange names?
no subject
[Nick reached out with his free hand to shake the offered hand.]
Nick Burkhardt.
no subject
Its nice to meet you, I'm Sandrath. And before you ask, no, I don't have a last name.
no subject
I know more than one person who only goes by one name. Hazards of living in Portland.
no subject
Well, that's something you don't hear too often.
