[As much as Nick would like to stay in contact with his partner on the way, he knows it's a better idea for Yuji to stick to the shadows right now. So he nods, watching the robot wolf step back, and then starts towards his car.

He pops open the trunk when he gets there to fold down the back seat, for once grateful that he doesn't have a sports car.]

Hop in.

[sassymaru]

[He makes one of those sounds dogs make when they're looking at something severely unappealing, but have no choice in the matter.]

[Then he sighs, and, hops in. The back of the car sags a little.]

[Poor Yuji. The indignities he has to suffer.

Nick closes the door after him, then climbs into the car and starts towards their apartment.]

...you didn't get hurt, did you? Can you even get hurt like that?

[sassymaru]

[He ends up curled on the seat, turned away from him. He's... looking back the way they'd come, actually, his "ears" cocked in that direction.]

I feel fine.

[SO MUCH MOPING.]

[Nick's keeping an eye on him through the rearview mirror, just in case. He doesn't look injured, but then, how do you even tell if a robot wolf is injured?]

Can you, uh. Hear better like this?

[sassymaru]

No.

[Wow, that was curt. He starts curling up a little more. He would rather be back there, tracking that ambulance, even if there's nothing to be done about it.]

It's the same.

[detectivetroll]

[Nick's quiet for a moment. He knows his partner, him being in a different form doesn't change that.]

He's in good hands. And I'll text you as soon as I see him.

[sassymaru]

I know that. And I know you will.

[He huddles a little more. If he had more of a tail than the stump, it would have tucked up underneath him.]

... he has antennas now. They're going to notice that.

[detectivetroll]

I know, I've seen them.

[Nick bites his lip, glancing in the rearview mirror before looking ahead.]

If he doesn't want to be outed, I'll... talk to his doctor, and nurses.

[And by 'talk' he means cajole, threaten, and/or bully with his badge.]

[sassymaru]

He showed you.

[It's less of a question than it is a sigh. At least that means there's less to explain.]

[Briefly, he glances over at him, "ears" perked.]

Whatever it takes, hm?

Yeah, uh, a while ago. One of the times we went out drinking.

[...is that a bad thing? He hadn't thought it was, but now he's not sure.

Nick looks in the rearview mirror again, this time meeting Yuji's eyes. ...his robot wolf eyes.]

I've gotten him into enough shit, I might as well try to get him out of some.

[sassymaru]

That's not surprising then.

[Nah, he's not upset.]

[There's that brief moment of eye contact, then he turns back around, head on his giant robot dog paws.]

... Thank you.

[detectivetroll]

You're welcome.

[It's quiet, but then Nick shakes his head.]

And you don't have to thank me, anyway. He's a friend, I'd do it even if he wasn't dating you.

I'm grateful. Therefore I have to thank you.
