[A lot of really strange things have been happening to Nick lately, but he can safely say that somehow getting kidnapped on the walk from his aunt's trailer to his car, without actually seeing anyone or even being aware that he'd been knocked unconscious, was pretty much the last thing he was expecting.
So, of course, it's what apparently happened. At this point, Nick's pretty sure he should just stop not expecting things. As soon as he doesn't expect something, that's when it's going to happen.
He takes a quick stock of the situation - not exactly liking the look of the cell he's ended up in, but at least, for some reason, whoever captured him didn't take the duffelbag full of weapons he'd had with him. A peek in the bag says they're all there, along with his both his Glocks. And a try of the doorknob, which'd been half-hearted at best, because he really hadn't expected it to open, proves to be successful.
See? Never expect things.
His cellphone isn't getting any reception, so Nick shoulders his duffelbag and pulls his gun out from its holster before ducking out into the hallway. If he can manage to sneak his way to a place that gets reception, he can call for Monroe or Hank. Or, better yet, maybe he can just find a way out of here.]
[So, uh, nonhumans, let me know if you don't want Nick to be able to tell that your character isn't human? And also feel free to have any nonhumans be able to sense something strange or dangerous/predatory about Nick!]

There's a flash almost as soon as Nick looks at him, and that's something Nick recognizes. Cat. Not one he's dealt with before, so not a Lowen, Klaustriech, or Rissfleisch. He's really wishing for his trailer, right about now. Or Monroe, but it's probably better than Monroe isn't here, with his thing against cats.
The Wesen's gender is a little less easy to determine, but Nick isn't particularly concerned with that at the moment. He lives in Portland, man, it's not exactly unusual. He's a little more preoccupied with trying to figure out if Alex means him any harm.
His experience with feline Wesen hasn't exactly been the best, but Nick's not going to let that affect his attitude. For now, he keeps the gun lowered at the ground, body posture on guard, but not threatening.]
Just looking for a way out of here.

Forcibly, he makes himself relax, easing the tension from his own shoulders and neck and shifting a bit so he looks less likely to spring or bolt. He knows the gun is still there and recognizes the threat it poses, but nothing will come of a conversation if he doesn't talk to the man.
At the stranger's answer, Alex shakes his head once.]
There isn't a way out of here... well, not the barracks literally, but out of the Keep grounds. Did you read the journal that was on your bedside table?
no subject
So he tucks his gun away in his jacket pocket, because it's been kind of a point of contention for a few people, and he doesn't want to come off as a threat to someone who doesn't mean him harm.]
No, I was a little preoccupied at the time. But I've heard it says our homes have been destroyed.
[Guess how much he believes that. It's not a lot.]
no subject
But he doesn't appear to be any threat and Alex is going to go with his gut and hope for the best.]
Yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it... can't say everyone here holds it for fact, but it's what they've been feeding us since we got here. Can't say whether it's true or not, but I can say that it looks like we're stuck here for the time being.
I'm Alex... guess I should welcome you to Holloway's Keep.

[Unfortunately, that he believes a little bit more. Or at least that escaping isn't going to be a show of force, fighting his way out. It's going to involve longer planning.
But that hasn't stopped him from scoping out the area.]
Thanks, though that's one welcome I'd rather not have. Nick.

Yeah, I understand entirely, but at least for the moment it is what it is.
[He shifts his weight from one hip to the other.]
So, besides the general 'not going to belief it' part... you have questions? I've been here over a year, so I'll answer for you what I can.
no subject
So it seems.
[At the offer to answer questions, he smiles, though it's not as bright as it would have been had it not been attached to Alex being there over a year. That's a long time to be stuck here.]
Do you know how many people are here?
no subject
Figure about seventy, or just under... about ten of those are staff members that 'work' here.
[Yep, he totally through some air quotes around that.]
no subject
I'm guessing the 'staff' aren't exactly amenable to answering questions.

You know the staff?

I work with Joe in the kitchens sometimes.. cooking and what not. I've sew some clothes for Nieta, who works the kennels and mew and been patched up by Isabel... There's still Duran, who seems a guard of some kind, the headsman, who I suggest you avoid if at all possible... and Lord Deior himself.
no subject
Patched up? So there's a doctor on staff?
[That's... odd. But then again, everything about this place is.]
Have you seen Lord Deior at all?
